Who we are
How You're Made is a guided journey of self-discovery that ends in your written guide to self. It is operated by How You're Made LLC, a Missouri limited liability company, and David Rock Vanderpool is its author and host. Reach us at help@howyouremade.com.
The short version
We do not buy data. We do not scrape profiles. We do not track you across the web. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising. We collect what your journey needs, we use it for that, and you can ask us to erase it.
What we collect
Your name and the name you prefer to be called. Your email address. Your mobile number, only if you choose to give it. Your date of birth, which you assert at enrollment so we can confirm you are eighteen or older, kept as the record of that assertion. Your time zone, so that any text messages reach you only between 8am and 9pm where you live. Your assessment answers, your written reflections, any replies you send us by text, your feedback on the observations we send you, your voice register preference, and consent records with timestamps.
How we use it
To generate and deliver your observations and your written guide. To send you the messages you opted into. To keep the program safe and to honor your choices, including opt-outs and erasure requests. That is the whole list.
AI processing
Your answers and reflections are processed by an AI model to produce your observations and your guide. That processing happens through Anthropic, whose published policy is that it does not train its models on inputs or outputs from its commercial API by default. A human author designs the process, the prompts, and the shape of what comes back. If we change model providers, this page changes with it.
Service providers
A small number of companies help us run the service, and each receives only what it needs to do its one job: hosting and data storage, AI model processing, text message delivery, and email delivery. None of them may use your information for anything else.
Mobile information and text message consent
Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
The only company that handles your mobile number besides us is our messaging provider, and only so that it can deliver the messages you asked for.
Scripture references
Scripture references are computed for every guide, the verse text itself is never stored, none of it is shown to you unless you invite it, and the references are erased along with everything else when you ask us to erase your account.
Care signals
Sometimes a person's own words suggest they may be struggling. If that happens, the platform shows you real resources, including the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The operator may see that a flag occurred, but we are not a crisis service, we do not monitor you, and no one from How You're Made will contact you or respond. Please reach out to the people and services built for that moment. We do not collect an emergency contact.
Retention and erasure
We keep your information while your account is active and while we need it to provide the service to you. You can ask us to erase your account and everything tied to it at any time, including the computed scripture references. When we erase, we keep only a minimal record that an erasure occurred, with no content in it, so erased data is not restored later by mistake. Consent records are kept as long as we need them to show that consent was given.
Security
We protect your information with the ordinary measures a careful web service uses: encrypted connections, access limited to the people who need it, and providers who meet current industry standards. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you.
Adults only
How You're Made is for adults eighteen and older. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under eighteen. If we learn that someone under eighteen has enrolled, we delete their data.
Your choices
You can update your details in your account. You can ask us to erase your account by emailing help@howyouremade.com. If you have opted in to text messages you can stop them at any time by replying STOP to any message, by emailing us, or by turning texts off in your account. Opting out of texts does not affect your account or your journey.
Changes
If we change this policy we update the date at the top, and for meaningful changes we tell you by email before they take effect.
